چکیده

Different anesthetics often produce distinctly different effects on blood flow, oxygen consumption and other physiological parameters in animal studies. We investigated the influence of two common anesthetics—alpha-chloralose and chloral hydrate—on the body-core/brain temperature differential in rats. The results indicate a remarkable difference of 4.3470.64 1C (mean7SD) in the body-core/brain-cortical temperature differential observed under alphachloralose anesthesia compared to a relatively smaller differential of 2.7370.40 1C under chloral hydrate anesthesia in rats. Temperature gradients within the brain are around 0.3 1C/mm in both cases. Thus, the anesthetic utilized has the potential to markedly influence brain temperature and therefore other important physiological parameters in the brain. r 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Depletion of Serotonin Synthesis with p-CPA Pretreatment Alters EEG in Urethane Anesthetized Rats under Whole Body Hyperthermia

Serotonin is believed as an important factor in brain function. The role of serotonin in cerebral psycho-patho-physiology has already been well established. However, the function of serotonin antagonist in anesthetized subjects under hyperthermia has not been studied properly. Methods: Experiments were performed in three groups of urethane-anesthetized rats, such as: (i) control group, (ii) wh...

Effect of Administration of Lidocaine at Body Temperature on Anesthesia Success in Rodent Model: A Behavior and Electrophysiology Study

Introduction: Success in anesthesia administration relieves the perception of pain during surgery. Lidocaine is the most commonly used local anesthetic agent in clinical medicine. Moreover, anesthetic agents' temperature changes can influence cell membrane permeability. Here, the effectiveness of different temperatures of lidocaine (Lid.) on anesthesia success rate in rats has been investigated...

Effects of Estrogen and Progesterone on Behavioral Impairment and Neuronal Death in Ovariectomized Rats Induced by Methamphetamine

Background and purpose: Methamphetamine (METH) is one of the most powerful drugs that leads to many cognitive and behavioral side effects such as anxiety. On the other hand, studies have shown that ovarian hormones such as estrogen and progesterone have neuroprotective effects on a wide range of cognitive and behavioral disorders. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of estrogen an...

The ameliorative potential of ethanolic extract of propolis on hematotoxicity and structural neuronal damage in hyperthermia-exposed rats

Objective(s): Hyperthermia is one of the most common environmental stressors that affect multi-biological systems in the body including the central nervous system as well as the hematopoietic organs. The objective of the present study was to investigate the protective role of ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) on some selective stress markers, hematological, biochemical, and histopathological ...

Differential Effects of Resveratrol on the Expression of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Transcripts and Protein in the Hippocampus of Rat Brain

Background: The induction of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression in the hippocampus has shown to play a role in the beneficial effects of resveratrol (RSV) on the learning and memory. The BDNF gene has a complicated structure with eight 5’ noncoding exons (I-IXa), each of which can splice to a common coding exon (IX) to form a functional transcript. Estrogens increase levels of ...
